Cousin Fun

Kenny' little sister and his brother's (Brad) wife, Sam, came to visit this past weekend, along with Sam & Brad's two kids, Liam and Kade. We had such a fun time exploring all the things to do in St. Louis. We went to Grant's Farm, The Magic House Children's Museum, the Botanical Gardens and their Children's Garden (like a big outdoor playground, splashpad, etc), the City Museum~ (like a huge playground for adults & big kids)(http://www.citymuseum.org/home.asp), and the zoo.

Learn from my mistakes!

I've always heard that a child will learn best from making his own mistakes, but for all you adults out there that don't want to learn the hard way, here ya go:

I'm sure you've heard the "don't leave your baby on a bed, changing table, or other high surface"... But from my experience today, I thought I'd share a few more with you. 1. Always securely buckle your child into the stroller (Check). 2. When child falls asleep in the stoller, carefully bring it inside and let him or her finish their nap in the stroller. (Kind of check). 3. Always apply the brakes on the stroller, even when you are just quickly running something up the stairs to place on the porch. (Thought it was checked). 4. Give your baby big hugs and kisses to console him after he is rudely awakened from his stroller crashing down the street. (Check). 5. Never leave your baby alone in the house when you go to retrieve the stroller/diaper bag from the street (especially if the keys are in there with him), even if for just a second, as he might figure out how to lock the screen door. (oops) 6. Learn the valuable skill of breaking into your own house with a credit card and always ignore your husband's advice to lock the deadbolt. (CHECK!)

Cloth Diapers? Are We Crazy?

I was at the library for story time the other day, and the conversation popped up. Turns out over half of us used cloth diapers! I was surprised, and in a strange way, sort of happy to share this shall I say... hobby... with others! So I thought I'd share here on our blog.
When we were patiently waiting for Raymond to be born, we prepared in every way we can- preparing our home for a new tenant, preparing our hearts for a new family member, preparing our minds for how to raise a baby! It is so funny to think of the many things that are now second nature that we knew nothing about just 2 years ago. I especially laugh now at the things that we are advocates of that two years ago we had no clue about-such as, cloth diapers. While I was pregnant, my friend Erin showed me her cloth diapers and I was pretty intrigued. With Kenny being in school, money is not exactly flowing, so it was a motivation to look into it. Erin introduced me to a store in St Louis called Cotton Babies that was filled with all sorts of styles of cloth diapers. Different styles? Once again, never seen anything but disposables or pre-folds before. These are not your mother's nor your grandmother's cloth diapers, people! They are just as easy as disposable diapers- no pins necessary. They are so much cheaper than disposables- especially because we use adjustable diapers- one size will last from birth to potty training. They are better for the baby's skin as well as they won't end up in a landfill. They are way cuter than disposables. One could even say the extra padding on the behind is helpful for all those falls. Less diaper rash, earlier potty training.... I could go on and on. Ask me sometime!

Just because

Big smiley eyes

Kenny thinks Raymond looks pretty sweet with a mohawk. I'd have to agree.
